Lasting Power of Attorney
An LPA lets you appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf — if you ever become unable to through illness, accident or cognitive decline. It must be set up while you still have mental capacity, so the sooner the better.
- It's not just for older people — accidents and serious illness can happen at any age.
- Without an LPA, your family cannot access your bank account or manage your affairs.
- Without an LPA, they cannot make medical decisions on your behalf.
- The court alternative (a Deputyship Order) is costly, slow and stressful — often taking many months.
